Make sure your phone and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network, then open Universal TV Remote and tap to scan. Pick your TV from the list to pair. On some TVs you may need to confirm the connection on the TV screen the first time.
Check that both devices are on the same Wi-Fi (not a guest network), that your TV is turned on, and that network/device discovery is enabled on the TV. Restarting your Wi-Fi router and re-opening the app usually helps. Some TV brands or models may not be supported.
The app works with many popular Wi-Fi–connected Smart TVs. Compatibility and available functions can vary by brand, model and firmware, so not every button will work on every TV.
Controlling your TV works over your local Wi-Fi network. An internet connection is used to load ads and analytics, and for voice search where applicable.
Hold the voice button and speak. The app captures audio only while you hold the button, then performs the search or command. You can revoke the microphone permission anytime in Android Settings → Apps → Universal TV Remote → Permissions.
The app is free and supported by ads. There are currently no in-app purchases or subscriptions, so there's nothing to cancel or restore. If paid features are added later, the price will be shown before you buy.
If a consent prompt appeared when you first opened the app, you can decline personalized ads there. You can also reset or opt out of your Advertising ID in Android via Settings → Privacy → Ads. Clearing app data lets the prompt appear again.
Your paired TV and settings stay on your device, and remote commands go directly to your TV over Wi-Fi. Because the free app is ad-supported, we use Google Firebase, Google AdMob, Adjust and the Meta (Facebook) SDK, which process limited device and advertising identifiers. We do not access your contacts, SMS or precise location. See our Privacy Policy.
Clear the app's storage (Settings → Apps → Universal TV Remote → Storage → Clear data) or uninstall the app to remove your paired TV and settings. To request deletion of any data held by us or our partners, email us and we'll respond within 30 days.
